Recording: Voices of Today and Tomorrow: A NASRIN Film Discussion Event
Girl Rising, Women Have Wings, and NGO Committee on the Status of Women NY hosted a special event with NASRIN Producer Marcia Ross, Girl Rising CEO Christina Lowery, along with young human rights activists who are inspired by NASRIN’s story. NASRIN, an award-winning documentary narrated by Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman and with music by Tony Award-winning composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo, tells the story of Nasrin Sotoudeh, the Iranian human rights lawyer who has bravely led ongoing battles for the rights of women, children and minorities. To watch the trailer, click here. To purchase the film, click here.
The Girl Rising Film Discussion event explores the power of storytelling to change hearts and minds, and to create lasting change in our world. Our special panel brings together the voices of a new generation of activists – Selin Ozunadim of Turkey and Maya Angulo of the US – to share how the story of Nasrin fuels their fight for human rights.

Survey on Migrant & Refugee Victims of Xenophobia and Intolerance in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic
To assess the impact COVID-19 has had on the migrant population in relation to xenophobia and social exclusion, the NGO Committee on Migration is circulating a survey, seeking replies from NGOs, academia, civil society institutions and United Nations entities in order to obtain as comprehensive data as possible on this essential grassroots work.
Please disseminate this survey to your networks. Such surveys have helped the UN move from a prime focus on policy to one that supports grassroots initiatives with a focus on leaving no one behind. The deadline to fill out the survey is 12 February 2021.
The survey is available in English, Spanish and French.
Save the Date: February Monthly Meeting
Join our February Monthly Meeting, Climate Crisis and Climate Action by and for Women!
Climate change presents an unprecedented threat to economies and societies around the world.
The climate crisis burdens all of humanity, but not equally. The world’s poor, the majority of whom are women, are disproportionately affected. To advance workable and equitable solutions on the local, national, and global level, women must continue to serve as change agents – agents of mitigation, adaptation, and prevention of the most serious consequences of climate change.
Our Monthly meeting will examine the international situation and map a few examples of solutions that have proven to be successful.
When: 18 February | 1PM EST
Where: Zoom
