Advocacy Research Group for CSW65 Updates

After almost five months of collaborative research and outreach by members of all of the Regional NGO CSWs (New York, Geneva, Vienna, Latin America and Caribbean, Arab MENA, Asia Pacific, and Africa), the Advocacy Research Group CSW65 Zero Draft recommendations were completed and submitted to the CSW Bureau Chair and each and every government early last week. You can read those recommendations here.

The Advocacy Research Group also compiled one-pagers on the critical issues identified in the UN Women Report of the Expert Group on the priority theme in October 2020. Six key critical issues and actions for advocacy were identified, with input from all regions, and researched in the hope that advocates participating in CSW65 might use these one-pagers as tools for their own interactions. They can be found here.

Lastly, you will find a results summary of a Youth Survey on these same key critical issues – very illuminating for understanding priority theme relevance to young participants and decision-makers in public life. The survey summary is here.

The calendar of CSW65 side events is now available on the UN Women website, which may be found here: https://www.unwomen.org/en/csw/csw65-2021/side-events

The calendar will be continuously updated as more information becomes available.

Women’s Human Rights Teaching, Learning, and Advocacy Resource

Beijing +25 invited experimentation and creativity for new online, virtual learning. However, there was a need to bridge a wide divide between the knowledge base in academia with activism at the UN. This project seeks to take first steps to fill that void and promote new ways of building collective learning tools for an international feminist and women’s movement. Read more.

Event: International Women’s Day 2021

Aligned with the priority theme of CSW65, the theme for the United Nations Observance of International Women’s Day 2021 is “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world, on the way to the Generation Equality Forum.” In addition to celebrating the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will also ‘lift the curtain’ and bring increased attention to this year’s Generation Equality Forums in Mexico City (29-31 March 2021) and Paris (June 2021).

The Observance will feature high-level dignitaries from the United Nations and governments, as well as other gender equality advocates and champions. Speakers including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of UN Women and Eva Longoria will offer reflections on the day’s theme and amplify the work of the upcoming Generation Equality Forums. The event will also include musical performances by Angelica Hale, the Pihcintu Chorus, and Broadway singers.

Date: 8 March 2021
Time: 10:00am – 12:30pm EST

The color for International Women’s Day 2021 is yellow. The hashtags for social media will be #IWD2021 and #InternationalWomensDay.

Survey: A Pathway Toward a CSO Feminist Agenda for Generation Equality

In preparation for the Mexico City Generation Equality Forum, the top priority is to gather input from feminist and women’s movement organizations, especially grassroots and on-the-ground. Please fill out this quick survey for systematizing the contributions made by feminist and women’s rights organizations on the Generation Equality Forum framework.

The survey is available in English, French & Spanish. If you would like to send the survey out to your networks, you can use this flyer in English, French and Spanish.
