The NGO CSW/NY office is in New York, NY. All employees and interns must be eligible to work in the United States and able to commute to our office. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or help support relocation. We proudly pay all of our interns $15/hour.

Compensation: $5,000 per month flat rate, plus potential bonus pending fundraising efforts of the role

About the organization
NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY (or NGO CSW/NY) is a convener of global civil society for the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and global gender equality advocacy. Each year, the annual CSW session takes place for two weeks in March at the UN headquarters in New York.
Founded in 1972, we are a coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, and individuals concerned with gender equality and the rights and empowerment of women and girls. NGO CSW/NY's main project is organizing the annual NGO CSW Forum in order to bridge the gap between global civil society and grassroots organizations, and the official UN Commission on the Status of Women. About the job
We are looking for a high level consultant to work with us from 1 September 2023 to 29 March 2024 to support the organization of our NGO CSW Forum, and Generation Equality engagement (GEF), as well as provide general fundraising responsibilities. While the NGO CSW Forum runs parallel to and complements the UN Commision on the Status of Women (CSW), it is a separate process with separate organizers. The NGO CSW Forum is organized by and for global civil society, non-governmental organizations, individuals and feminists working for the rights and empowerment of women and girls to connect them with the official UN CSW process. The Forum, held in a hybrid format, will engage our 50,000 global members in-person and online through hundreds of events, including informal conversation circles, regional caucuses and networking opportunities.
Overview of responsibilities
The contractor will working under the supervision of the Executive Committee Co-Chairs and the full Executive Committee of NGO CSW/NY to achieve the following:
NGO CSW Forum - 10 to 22 March 2024
- Support the organization and implementation of the NGO CSW Forum, which will be held from 10 to 22 March 2024 outside of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
- Help facilitate and implement the work of the Forum Planning efforts including:
- NGO CSW Forum Consultation Day
- Parallel Events
- Exhibitors
- Handbook and Advertising
- Conversation Circles and Regional Caucuses
- Vienna Cafe and Member State relations
- Orientation and Advocacy Training and NGO CSW Forum informational sessions
- Work with the Executive Committee Co-Chairs to support the Working Groups/ Subcommittees in preparation for CSW, including Advocacy and Research efforts.
- Co-lead the development and management of a technological platform to host the virtual engagement of global members in the hybrid NGO CSW Forum. The tech platform should be accessible for members as a resource year round.
- Coordinate volunteers and staff to support online and in-person events during the NGO CSW Forum, and ensure all participants in the hybrid forum feel connected, supported and informed in their engagement.
- Spearhead the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers for the NGO CSW Forum
- Implement global movement building efforts
- Support public relations and communications for the NGO CSW Forum, including as part of the Communications Committee. Work with the Communications Secretary, Communications Intern and Office Staff to develop and implement a plan for meaningful engagement with our membership and broader civil society organizations about participation in the Forum.
- Work with Co-chairs to build high level partnerships with Member States, UN Women and high level UN actors to facilitate civil society advocacy in the lead up to and during CSW.
Fundraising
- The contractor will create and implement a comprehensive strategy for fundraising to ensure ongoing sustainable financial support, according to the needs of the organization.
- Money that is brought into NGO CSW/NY during the 7 month timeframe of the contract could comprise financial bonuses for the contractor.
Ongoing Responsibilities
- Engaging with other UN coalitions and spaces dedicated to promote the gender equality agenda, continuing Generation Equality Forum (GEF) civil society engagement efforts, and other movement building initiatives as needed.
Location
This position will be based in our New York City office with the potential for remote work flexibility offered through our hybrid in-person/remote work model. The expectation is to be present in the office 2 to 3 days per week and in person full time during the CSW 10 to 22 March 2024.
Compensation
NGO CSW is committed to pay equity. Consultancy remuneration offers are determined based on experience and qualifications. Compensation for this position is $5,000 per month.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have a bachelor's and/or master's degree and 5 to 10 years of experience in nonprofit management, in roles of increasing responsibility. The candidate should have strong leadership skills, excellent project management skills, and be able to work well under pressure. Additionally, the candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills, be able to set clear priorities and possess a strong ability to build consensus amongst differing opinions.
Additional qualifications
A background in international relations, gender equality and women’s human rights, as well as experience with the United Nations is a plus.
- Proven ability to lead the organization of a global conference.
- Proven ability to develop a fundraising strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and ability to connect and communicate with diverse cultures and people from around the world and proven ability to work in multicultural spaces.
- Proven experience of work with women’s rights and feminist civil society movements.
- Proven experience with high-level government and UN agencies representatives.
- Ability to leverage applications such as Google Workspace, Zoom and Canva.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be present in the New York metropolitan area and able to commute to the Office 3 days per week.

With over 750 events, the NGO CSW Forum informs, engages, and inspires grassroots efforts and gender equality advocacy around the world. While the NGO CSW Forum runs parallel to and complements the UN CSW, it is a separate process with separate organizers.
This 9 month internship requires interns to work 3 days a week for a minimum of 10-15 hours.
Intern tasks and projects include:
- Having an essential role in the planning and implementation the NGO CSW68 Forum by contributing to decisions on Forum substance, events, promotions, resources, and more;
- Taking part in NGO CSW/NY's advocacy efforts and engagement with Member States of the UN;
- Researching and creating resources for the NGO CSW/NY community of over 50,000 people around the world;
- Supporting the organization of panel discussions and roundtable events throughout the year;
- Taking a leadership role within the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals program;
- Monthly blog posts;
- Attending UN and civil society meetings/events and reporting back;
- Providing support and customer service to our constituency;
- Administrative/office tasks
Requirements:
- Mature intercultural communication abilities; practical experience in international settings is an asset;
- Passionate about gender equality and human rights;
- UN experience or immense curiosity and eagerness to learn about human rights and the UN;
- Full-time commitment during the NGO CSW Forum in March;
- A good sense of humor;
- Excellent customer service, particularly in diverse environments, both in person, via email, and by phone, with high professionalism;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments;
- Strong researcher and writer, able to synthesize complex information into blog posts, reports, and meeting notes;
- Proficiency using the latest versions of Google Suite and Microsoft Office;
- Background in fields of International Relations, Women's and Gender Studies, Human Rights, Journalism, Social Sciences, Law, Public Policy, or related disciplines preferred;
- Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply;
- Proficiency in one of the UN languages other than English is an advantage. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is highly valued;

- Creating content for social media and other comms platforms and/or campaigns;
- Help develop, plan, and implement campaigns for UN and CSW advocacy training;
- Assist with developing the content of the NGO CSW67 Forum virtual platform;
- Assist with developing the communications plan for the NGO CSW67 Forum;
- Assisting with the communications for the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals program;
- Taking a leadership role with the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals;
- Working on our 50th Anniversary campaign.
Requirements:

- Knowledge of social media platforms and effective social media communications strategies;
- Previous NGO communications experience is preferred;
