Event: UNGA High-Level Meeting on Beijing+25
When: 1 October 2020 | 9:00am – 7:00pm EDT
Where: webtv.un.org
NGO CSW/NY suggests all of you to follow live and engage through social media. Let governments know what we expect of them and how we will hold them accountable. And, let’s also celebrate those who make strong commitments.
Under the theme, “Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls“, this high-level meeting of the General Assembly aims to demonstrate the political will and leadership that will bring about the transformative change needed to address root causes, structural barriers, discriminatory practices and social norms that underpin discrimination and inequality. The event will also showcase concrete actions, plans and commitments to accelerate the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by 2030, including in support of the role of civil society organizations and youth. Women Deliver’s Advocacy Resource to Engage Governments & Private Sector in Generation Equality for UNGA75
Women Deliver’s action-based toolkit for engaging governments and the private sector in Generation Equality has launched this week. It urges governments to make bigger, bolder contributions as part of Generation Equality. The resource is available in English, Spanish and French.
In 1995, 189 countries signed onto the Beijing Platform for Action at the historic UN Fourth World Conference on Women. This policy document, combined with the legally-binding women’s human rights treaty CEDAW and the Sustainable Development Goal targets are the blueprint to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. How can we hold governments accountable for the BPfA? How does the UN Fourth World Conference on Women speak to the young generation today? What are our demands for the future of the BPfA? Can this legacy help us to address the crises of our times, related to racial and gender inequality, unsustainable development, and threats to peace? If so, how can we take action at the Generation Equality Forum (2021) and CSW65?
In this 4-part virtual event, we will deep dive into these questions. Through personal stories, we will engage an inter-generational dialogue centered around the three themes of the Decade for Women: “Equality”, “Development”, and “Peace”.
