(March 6, 2017) – New York, NY – The NGO Committee onthe Status of Women is proud to announce Dr. Mabel Bianco, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the 2017 Woman of Distinction Awardee. Dr. Bianco will be the keynote speaker during NGO CSW61 Forum Consultation Day, held March 12, 2017 at Hunter College, Kaye Playhouse and a Reception, held March 14, 2017 at Kimmel Center, New York University.
Dr. Mabel Bianco is a crusader for women’s rights in Latin America and the world. She has implemented policies to save women’s lives, particularly regarding breast cancer, gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS, and sexual and reproductive rights. Her work has built a stronger feminist movement in Latin America. Bianco’s work is cross-sectional, spanning medicine, public health, policy formation, feminist network building, and UN gender reform. NGO CSW/NY is proud to name Dr. Mabel Bianco as our Woman of Distinction for CSW61.

The UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) turns the focus of the United Nations to Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work. At the same time, civil society is given the opportunity to participate in the NGO CSW Forum, organized by NGO CSW/NY. Parallel to the UN activities, the NGO CSW Forum gives activists from around the world the opportunity to discuss the theme, network, share strategies/good practices, and lobby governments to implement resolutions and treaties. This annual award is given to a woman in recognition of their leadership in the struggle for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
