Originated by activists at the inaugural Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991, the 16 Days campaign was inspired as a remembrance of the Mirabal sisters, who were brutally murdered in 1960 and became a symbol of the feminist movement in Latin America. 25 November to 10 December are 16 days to learn, promote, and advocate for a world free of gender-based violence for women, girls, and gender non-conforming people in all their diversity.
