CSW70 Recommendations for the First Draft

Overview & Core Imperative

We formally present recommendations for the CSW70 First Draft, urgently advocating for the rights of all women and girls in their full diversity, including underrepresented, indigenous, disabled, and LGBTQI+ people.

The priority theme requires dismantling structural barriers across social, economic, political, cultural, and digital dimensions. With 2026 preparatory negotiations starting for a Crimes against Humanity Treaty, this expanded justice framework must prioritize accountability, center women’s agency, and connect prevention with enforcement to end systemic discrimination.

Key Recommendation Areas

1. Expanded Transitional Justice

Integrates accountability for systemic rights violations into national frameworks. Mandates truth-telling, guarantees non-recurrence, and implements transformative reparations.

2. Social Justice & Agency

Centers all women’s voices and leadership in decision-making. Demands intersectional mechanisms to end structural violence and invest in reproductive autonomy.

3. Economic Reform

Reforms labor/property laws for equal pay, expands publicly funded childcare and legal aid, and implements ILO Convention 190 to eliminate workplace violence.

4. Political Participation

Expands civic/legal literacy, funds independent bodies to document political violence, and enforces gender-responsive electoral laws and quotas.

5. Cultural Justice

Engages men and boys as allies against misogyny, combats digital hate speech, and promotes positive role models to transform restrictive social norms.

6. Digital Safety & Equity

Enforces laws against online violence and algorithmic bias, expands affordable internet to marginalized groups, and mandates AI gender impact assessments.

CSW Revitalization & UN Liquidity

Under the UN80 Initiative, member states must fulfill Article 17 funding obligations in full and on time. UN Women’s specialized mandate must be preserved and strengthened through assessed funding to safeguard Beijing Platform programs from budget curtailments.
