Digital Literacy | Day 15

By Jamie O’Malley

With the exponential growth and development of the online world, digital literacy has never been more important. When you are constantly being flooded with mass amounts of information, new platforms, connections, and content, the ability to evaluate what you’re seeing, and to protect yourself and your information is crucial. Digital literacy ensures you’re not just playing catch up with the latest technologies, but actively prepared and adaptable to emerging ones.

Being digitally literate can aid in:

  • Accessing and evaluating information
  • Protecting online safety
  • Effective communication
  • Building skillsets
  • Improving critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Adapting to future technological developments

To encourage digital literacy in our members and constituents we have put together a list of resources you can use to improve the digital literacy of yourself and others.

DigitalLearn.org

This website includes step-by-step tutorials on some of the most basic and most common functions you may use a computer for.

Tech Life Unity

Tech Life Unity is an educational resource for all ages but aimed at older adults with everything from articles to tutorials on some of the most popular digital platforms and topics today.

GFC Global

This resource includes a large amount of topics largely aimed at the job market and skills you may need to be successful in roles such as Zoom, Microsoft office, photo and video editing, and more.
